Dark Lover, by J.R. Ward
Published by Signet, Sept 2005
Grade: B
About the book: In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war
going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of
brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none
of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger
Brotherhood.
The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has
a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But,
when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter
unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the
undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.
I'd have not started this series if it wasn't for my trusted fellow bloggers. As much as I like Vampire novels, the description was not at all appealing to me. I'm glad that I decided to read this, because I enjoyed it..once I got past the annoying way the brothers talked. To me, they sounded like those 15 year olds you see standing in front of corner stores wearing baggy pants and talking ebonics. It bugged the hell out of me.
Wrath and Beth are a good love match. I felt how much they needed each other, and I was rooting for them from the start. When Beth found out that she was a Vampire she had her little freak out and then she accepted it. Many of the Heroines from other Vampire books act like sissy babies and fight it for half the book before they accepted their fate, so I was happy to see that the acceptance period was of short length.
Aside from all the leather (You only see that much cow skin during gay pride parades) Wrath was a great Hero. He was gentle with Beth, but went crazy on the bad guys.
This was book one of the black dagger brotherhood.

I was really hesitant to start this book too. I think Bam's review did me in (like with ALL the other books-LOL).
I had to reread this book when I was done reading the latest one. Wrath is so delicious!
Wrath is indeed yummy!
I have book 3 in my room, by my friend has yet to give me back book 2.
You know all about my reading in order sickness. Sigh.
