Lily Tyler's very interested in her sexy new neighbor, private jet pilot Brady
Cole. Brady could really go for smart, gorgeous Lily. The fire that's generated
whenever they're together isn't just chemical . . . it's nuclear! But then
there's Doug . . . The real ruler of the roost—Lily's noisy, nasty,
match-mauling pooch—Doug likes to greet anyone he dislikes with yaps, nips, and
very unpleasant surprises. And Doug does not like Brady. (Doug, in fact, doesn't
like anybody—except Lily, of course. And, oddly enough, the squeaky clean,
partner-track attorney whom Lily's domineering dad would love for his dutiful
daughter to marry.) Brady's no canine fan to begin with—and Doug's the devil-dog
incarnate! But Lily could never get serious with anyone who doesn't click with
her precious puppy—so Brady's going to need a lot more than great looks, smooth
charm, and hot passion to get himself out of the doghouse and into Lily's life!
First a confession about this book. See the dog and feet on the cover? That was enough to make me never want to read this. Feet creep me out, and I don't like animals so I don't want to read a book that has one with a big part in it. With the dog being on the cover you just know he will be in the book a lot.
The reason I bought this book is because while at the bookstore I didn't know what else to get, so I asked my 4 year old to pick a book. This is the one he picked. I put off reading it for 2 months, and every time I picked one out of my TBR my eyes would roam over it. After a while the darn dog and creepy feet didn't even bother me.
Brady is a Harley riding private jet pilot who moves in next door to thirty something teacher, Lily. He likes her, but has decided to go on a 'date diet' after he is stalked by crazy chick, Tricia.
Lily is seeing Mr. Perfect Gerald. A lawyer in her dads law firm. He is as wonderful as the Hero, Mr. Knightly out of her favourite book, Emma. Gerald is so perfect and so respectful that even after 5 dates he hasn't done more than kiss her on the cheek...no matter how hard she tries to entice him into doing more.
There is also Doug. Adorable naughty doggy Doug. Doug hates men. He barks, nips at and plays tricks on them. He sees himself as Lily's protector and doesn't trust that anyone can keep Lily as safe as he can.
Beware of Doug is not perfect, but it's a light happy read that leaves you feeling good about the time you spent on it. Brady is a great Hero and Lily is good for him. I'll even look past her back and forth attitude and mixed signals she kept sending to Brady, because she admits to herself that she was making both of them confused with her unwillingness to just be with him.
I gotta admit that I loved every part with Doug. What a little rascal! So damn cute. Best part is that we get a little bit of Dougs POV. That was neat to read.
Animal lovers (or not, like myself) will get a kick out of Beware of Doug. I know I liked it.
Awesome. this one is on my TBR stack. Looks like I'm going to have to move it up. Nora Roberts commented on it recently on Alison Kent's blog too, so it's going to the top *G*
I have not read this one, but i have read others by her and they were fun. I like to read her for a nice fun contemporary.
I was really surprised at how much I liked it.
Before hand I had it set in my head that I was not going ot like it.
That sure changed once I read it.
I've read another dog book by this author and really enjoyed it (despite the miracle baby). So I'm going to look for this one for sure.
Oh yeah, Max hates men too. He really does.
Looks like a fun book. I've never read her before.
Thanks for the review.
Hey Ames, The h/h from the one you read are in this one. I'm on the lookout for their story now.
I actually thought of your Max while reading this. I said 'I bet Ames would like this" lol
Hi Alyssa, thanks for stopping by :)
